The first thing I found intriguing about the second half of the book is how Franklin put in an hourly schedule. Some things in this schedule that suggest characteristics that might be good for scientist his he asks himself everyday “what good shall I do...” and “what good have I done…” and he also reads during his lunch break. Him asking these questions allow him to be self-aware, will make each day matter rather than falling into a repetitive dull day, and will make it easier to set and reach goals. The fact he reads during lunch could just because it’s a hobby but it also shows that me makes the time for things he finds important whereas most people on a lunch break would try to read they would say they don’t have time.               The next thing I thought to be different about Franklin is he didn’t show much emotion when he quickly talked about the death of his son.                Benjamin Franklin is a multitalented man. I would have to say Franklin is the most interesting historical figure to me since he is so well known for such a verity of things. His autobiography is the most intriguing to me of the books on our reading list. He was a respected businessman, philosopher, statesman, writer and scientist. I normally hate reading biographies because they tend to have way more information on the given person then I need or want to know. Generally, when I have to read a biography I only need to know about one-time period so I could only read a few chapters to get all that I need out of it. Typically, I dread first few chapters that are talking about parents and childhood but this time I found these chapters pretty useful. For the topic of this class I find these chapters more important and interesting than normal since we are studying the characteristics of these people rather than what they’ve achieved. I th...

In many of my past classes we’ve talked about how science is a field of study that answers questions with more questions. To be a good scientist you have to be okay with not having all the answers and good at asking questions. A good scientist wonders and question differently than everyone else. Even this this being a popular topic discussed I’ve never made the direct connection that science is a subsection of philosophy but it completely makes sense. When I read that PhD is a Doctorate of Philosophy I was taken aback but not surprised. I gasped while reading it and went off on a tangent with my roommate about how it was unexpected yet totally obvious at the same time.             I’ve chosen pursue a degree in the science field and like every college student I’ve gone through a quarter-life crisis wondering if I’ve chosen the right field of study and if I’ll be a good scientist. The part that every made me question myself is the...
